Topic: Species names in observation hierarchy

Since the latest update to the lichen species dictionary we have noticed that the species names shown in the observation hierarchy are not always the latest names, although these are shown in the Determinations tab. An example is this record of Mycobilimbia pilularis, originally input as Biatora sphaeroides. Is there any way we get it to show the modern name throughout?

I can't duplicate exactly what you are seeing. What version of R6 are you on ?  However,  have a look in Tools Options and see what  is ticked under Taxon Name Display Options.  Make sure Name as Input isn't ticked.

Re: Species names in observation hierarchy

I'm on 6.22, and Names as Input is not ticked. A colleague has the same setup as me and has the same problem, and I've also checked other occurrences of the same species in the database, and the problem seems to be consistent.

Re: Species names in observation hierarchy

I've played around with this a bit more, and the we seem to get:

a) input using the old name several years ago (when it was the current name) - shows the old name in obs hierarchy, but updated to new name in det

b) input now using the old name (now a synonym) - shows the new name in the obs hierarchy, but the old name as input in the det

c) input now using the new name - shows the new name in both

You see why we find this confusing!

Re: Species names in observation hierarchy

Hi

This is either going to be dictionary or something to do with the original key used for the input.  Have you got the additional info addin loaded. This will give information on exactly what has been recorded. It adds a  button to the bottom of the Observation hierrachy window which gives more info on the selected line.

Re: Species names in observation hierarchy

This is one for Chris.  Taxon List Item key NHMSYS0000359395  (which I assume is old) has  Biatora sphaeroides as its preferred name. Other option is for you to move NHMSYS0000359395 to NHMSYS0020980184.

Re: Species names in observation hierarchy

The key change I suggested is incorrect.  Could be done this way by changing or adding a new determination with the keys from the new dictionary, but the keys need to be worked out carefully.
