Topic: Multiple Grid References for one location

I hope this isn't a silly question but is it possible to set up a location on R6 that will recognise grid references within a certain area, e.g. if you have a square field can you give recorder the coordinates for the boundary and get it to assign all records with a grid reference within that boundary to that location?

I've tried to do this by entering NW and SE grid references for an individual survey but Recorder doesn't seem to like it,

Greatly appreciated!

Re: Multiple Grid References for one location

You can select all records within a mapped polygon using one of the xml reports (one or other of the JNCC Polygon reports) and I suppose this could be modified to create a batch update which would make the association, but it would be a bit of a task to get it right.

You would also need to consider what you would do about low spatial resolution records which overlap the site and also records which overlap more than one site. Remember a spatial (grid) reference is not a point reference but refers to a square area, with its size defined by the resolution of the grid reference.

We thought about doing this but backed off pretty quickly when it got complicated.

Thanks for the speedy reply!

Does that mean that if you use a less detailed grid reference then Recorder will pick up grid references included in that square and assign them to the location even if the specified location on the individual record doesn't exactly match?
