Topic: Survey Structure Export

Is the Survey Structure Export functionality implemented on the BRC community warehouse?

http://indicia-docs.readthedocs.org/en/ … xport.html

I need to create three new surveys identical to one I already have and this would make life much simpler!

Cheers,
Fiona

Re: Survey Structure Export

Well, I didn't know about that feature!

It is not showing up on warehouse1 but that doesn't mean it couldn't be enabled.

Ideally, I'd like the opinion of someone who actually knows about it first, before turning it on.

Re: Survey Structure Export

I wrote it, and have successfully used it to move survey configurations between servers, though not to the live server. I'd suggest checking that it generates the required configuration on a fairly simple test first, but I see no reason not to try it. Plus it saves a LOT of time.

Jim, you should follow @indiciatoolkit on Twitter!

Re: Survey Structure Export

The survey I want to copy is fairly simple so I'm happy to experiment with copying it using this tool. I'm all for saving time!

Jim, can implement this functionality on the warehouse when you get a chance and let me know when it's available?

Many thanks,
Fiona

Re: Survey Structure Export

Hi Jim,
I've had an play on the test warehouse using the Survey Structure Export functionality and it worked perfectly. Do you think you would be happy enabling it on the live warehouse?

Cheers,

Re: Survey Structure Export

Hi Fiona,

I just had a look at warehouse1 and, as if by magic (or more likely by the hand of John), it is showing the Import & Export tab.

Jim.

Re: Survey Structure Export

Indeed - I added it just before you checked Jim. Very handy for me ensuring that the structures of a bunch of surveys I'm working on were the same between test and live.
Tip - you can export a structure, pop it through jsonlint.com, then save the output into a file. Then, you can version control the survey structure, or use things like diff to check versions across servers...

Re: Survey Structure Export

I used the Import/Export tab successfully but did find that one attribute - Certainty - was created each time rather than recognised from the available attributes. I had to manually delete the new attributes that were created and add the correct one to my surveys. Not a big hassle but worth mentioning I think.
