Topic: Timings for upgrade work

As with other posts on here regarding upgrades/updates to versions and dictionaries in Recorder 6 we have to have the work done by the Councils IT people (they will not give admin rights etc).

Our issue is that the Councils IT service has become a separate organisation and work is carried out under an SLA. They believe that this work is outside of that SLA and so will have to provide a quote for doing it. The IT contact has been very helpful so far and has said that they will only charge for the actual work done, i.e. not for the time taken sitting and waiting for the upgrades to happen but rather the time they would actually be pressing buttons if you like.

I have read the various posts regarding upgrades so have a rough idea of timings but it would be really helpful if I could get an idea of the amount of time IT would need to be 'active'. He has stated that regardless of how long they take to complete the work they will charge what is quoted, so if it's an hour but he's quoted for 3 then we still have to pay for 3.

We are on version number: 6.16.2.241 and dictionary 0000000Y.

We'd be grateful for any advice you could give.

Thanks

Re: Timings for upgrade work

I wouldn't quote any more than an hour for doing this. This includes finding the files on the web site and setting off the downloads. When they are complete unzipping them in the scripts folder. Setting off the upgrade. Running the index rebuilds, but you can do this. The last time I did it for an LRC with an upgrade at least as big as this it took about 4 hours elapsed time, but most of this was waiting for the upgrade to run and not actually doing anything.

Thanks very much Mike, this is really helpful and the speedy response is much appreciated.

We clearly haven't done this for a while but from what you've said we won't need admin rights on the PC to rebuild the indexes? Also, do we need to do this on each of the networked workstations?
