Topic: Unselectable polygon when importing circular MIF/MID into Recorder

An odd problem has been plaguing us on and off for a while now which I haven't been able to fathom.

When importing a circular MIF/MID exported from MapInfo (created using the ellipse tool, equal radii), sometimes (and only sometimes) I'm unable to select the polygon on Recorder's map. It shows up fine - I just can't select it. I can select other polygons on the same layer and resetting/deleting the map (and files) doesn't make any difference.

I can however select the polygon using the checkboxes - but when running a report against an unselectable polygon I get an error (see below). I've attached a MIF that I can't select - it would be interesting to know if it's just me having this problem!

The only way around this I have found is to manually move the ellipse ever so slightly (i.e. by 1 m increments) and export until I can select it in Recorder - or crudely draw round the polygon on Recorder's map.

Not just you. I can't select it either.

We've never used the ellipse tool for this purpose, which is why I hadn't noticed it. Instead we digitise a point in MI and then buffer it, delete the point (essential step) and then export the buffer. This has the added advantage that the mapbasic code we use to automate this works just as well if we digitise an irregular search area and buffer that instead of the point.

Well, that's a relief. I think!

Another work around (in case it's of use to anyone) is to use "convert to regions" on the ellipse.
