Topic: Multiple Recorder 6 Databases under one SQL Server Instance

Hi

We are trying to tidy up some of our Recorder 6 Databases.  We have 6 separate Recorder 6 instances on standalone machines that contain habitat data and link to their own Snapshot and reporting system developed by Mike Weideli.

We are setting up a new networked Server instance of the Full version of SQL Server to house these Recorder 6 databases over the network.  We are wanting to just have 1 SQL Server instance all of of these databases separatly underneath.

However, as each of the databses has the same name (NBNDATA) we are not sure we will be able to do this, and be able to link via ODBC for the Snapshot tool for each database.

Is it possible to change the name of the database (or give it an alias) and it still link correctly with the recorder Application?

Or is there another way we can achieve the same thing?

Thanks

Stuart

A quick answer - yes. Our database is not called NBNData - if I remember correctly, Recorder uses a key in the registry to get the name of the server and database to connect to.

Think its in My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Dorset Software\Recorder 6

I thought a separate instance of SQL Server was needed for each separate Recorder database.  Is this no longer necessary?
