Topic: NBN Exchange install failure

I have just twice attempted to install the NBN Exchange Addin v6.17.0.10, from http://jncc.defra.gov.uk/page-4597, and following the instructions in the ReadMe.txt included in the .zip.

The error below was generated.  It has happened twice.  After the first attempt, I uninstalled the add-in (which despite the error was visible in the list), closed R6, restarted the computer (stand-alone, Vista) and tried again.  Same result.

Any advice welcome.

Re: NBN Exchange install failure

And I discover that if I click on the name in the Install add-in dialogue, and ask for 'About' R6 crashes.

I also notice that the text in the bottom panel is:

Version 6.17.0.9 of 17/12/2012. Write observations to NBN Exchange Format Version 2.3.2, January 2010. Zipping is carried out by TurboPower Abbrevia version 3.05, released under Mozilla Public Licence version 1.1.

Note .9, not .10 as the download page indicates, in case that is significant.

Re: NBN Exchange install failure

You should be able to install the version attached to the post  25Feb2014
http://forums.nbn.org.uk/viewtopic.php?pid=19751#p19751

The other version needs to be removed first. If you are still getting problems with the help after this then this suggests that the old version hasn't been completely removed and we will need to fix this.

Re: NBN Exchange install failure

Thanks, Mike, but I don't follow this completely.  The file on that post contains only a single .dll file, not the .ocx and .sql files that were in the file I got from the JNCC download page as above, and which are referred to (or at least the .ocx is) in the ReadMe.txt.

What do I do now that I have NBNExchangeAddinNu.zip and its contained NBNExchangeAddinNu.dll from that 25 Feb post?

Re: NBN Exchange install failure

Unzip it. If you put it in the Recorder 6 addin folder this may help.  Goto tools/imstall/addin modules/. Then click install. Find the .dll' Highlight it and click on open. It should install, without needing to do anything else. This version is designed  to work with R6 v6.21 or above, but will work on any version that has previously had 6.17 installed even if it has been removed.

Re: NBN Exchange install failure

Thanks, Mike.  That seemed to work OK.

However, I see it needs R6.21 to work, and I am still on 6.19.4.267.

6.21 is not available on the downloads page http://jncc.defra.gov.uk/page-4612, though I have seen the posts on testing the release candidate.

Is that in a reliable state to install from http://forums.nbn.org.uk/viewtopic.php?id=4926?  I don't really want to install a less-than-final version as I don't have the resources to cope with problems.

Re: NBN Exchange install failure

Version 6.21/6.22  is just  about to be made available. The addin  will work with any version which has had the previous version installed, even if it has been removed. The reason is that the original addin installs the changes to the database which the addin requires. As you had the old addin installed you be able to run the new version.

OK - that will be on the list for tomorrow.

I should have read your post more carefully - sorry!

Thanks.

Re: NBN Exchange install failure

Still a problem.  I have tried to export one Survey as NBN Exchange, and though the process seemed to proceed all right, 2/3 of the records failed for some unspecified reason.  Screenshot attached.

Where do I go now?

The full number of records from an unchanged Survey was exported a couple of weeks ago with the old add-in.  The reason I am doing this again is because that export had the 'leap-year bug' and records failed the NBNG checks after submission.

Re: NBN Exchange install failure

The addin did complete, but there must be something in the data which makes it think that some of the records are temporary. Did your data come from Recorder 2002 ?

Re: NBN Exchange install failure

There certainly would be some from R2002, Mike.  I changed over in 2008 (I think) so all records previous to that would have been imported from R2002.

It makes sense, because out of curiosity I tried a survey which has no records from R2002, and all ~400 records were included in the export file.

The remedy is ...?

The attached batch update should  fix this. If you need any instructions on implementing this please  let me know.

Re: NBN Exchange install failure

I will try that after my coffee, Mike.  Thanks.  A quick guide to use would be helpful - I have not used batch updates before.

Re: NBN Exchange install failure

Close Recorder 6. Copy the file into the User Files\Batch Update folder of Recorder 6. Where thsi is will depends on your operating system and how you set up Recorder. The folder may just be in C:\Program Files\Recorder 6 or in "C:\Users\Public\Documents\Recorder 6\User Files"

Open recorder 6  and  from the main menu select Tools/Run Batch update. this will bring up a list of folders. Expand the ' Updates' folder  and choose LC_Fix_Sample_recorder.  Click OK. You can take a back up at this point. The Batch update will run (will be fairly quick)  and you should see a message Batch Update applied. You can then try the export again.

If all is OK it might then be safer to delete the Batch update  file from your Batch update folder.
