Topic: "Invaild Class String" Error on Network Install

Hi

I am trying to install Recorder 6 Network (Server side application) on a new server (Windows Server 2008, SQL 2008). I have created a named instance and restored the data from our current Recorder 6 server (on SQL Express 2005) to this new instance in SQL Management console. (Our networks people suggested that this should be OK).

When I then try and run the Recorder 6 Server Setup it errors on the screen where I choose my SQL instance and click OK with the following message:

"Invaild Class String".

It then uninstalls the partially installed components and returns you to where you started.

Any ideas where I should be looking for the issue to resolve here?

Many thanks

Stuart

Re: "Invaild Class String" Error on Network Install

I am not totally sure about this and will get you more help. Which install are you using - is it 6.17 ?  Also am I right in thinking that the install is not on the same server as running SQl Server 2005 ?

I don't think it is anything to do with the problem, but  transferring the data in before you run set up is not going to work as the install will replace the data with a blank database.

Re: "Invaild Class String" Error on Network Install

Thanks Mike

I am using the current network.zip installation downloaded from the www.recorder6.info.

This is on an entirely new server.

I did initially try to install without restoring the database to the instance first and had the same error.

I could try and install using option 2 to create the a blank Recorder 6 database on the instance and then replace it with backups but I thought it would be cleaner to use option 3.

Thanks

If its works you will be better off you do a new install, then just restore the database from the other machine. This is the approach we would normally use.

Unfortunately this method did not work either but had a different error path:

After selecting Method 2 for installation, typing the correct site ID and check code and typing in the empty instance name I immediately got the error attached followed by the following detail:

Re: "Invaild Class String" Error on Network Install

Just realised that looking at the documentation within "Network.zip" downloaded from www.recorder6.info that it is version 6.15 - can this be updated to 6.17 so I can give that a try?

Thanks

Re: "Invaild Class String" Error on Network Install

Hi,
we are getting the same problems - have tried on SQL Server 2012 and on SQL Server 2008. We've tried all kinds of options for installation, all failing.

Our network installation files are 6.15.4 - we don't have installation disks for later versions. Is there a download for the most recent installation files?

Many thanks,
Fiona

Re: "Invaild Class String" Error on Network Install

Fiona (and all)

I did eventually manage to find a 6.17 version on our server (I can only think that I must have got this from the download site so it must have changed back to 6.15 on there subsequently.

This version only gives two options to install.  The first one is to create the NBNData database on the instance - I still had the same problem as above on this.

The second option just installs the software and expects an NBNDAta Database to be already in the instance (this I did by restoring a copy of my current database onto the new instance on the new server) - this seemed to work ok.

It would be still be useful to have to the latest version on the download though.

Thanks

Stuart

Thanks Stuart, I will do more hunting to see if we can find the 6.17 installation disks.
