Topic: Help for running imports

Sally/Mike

Is there a document outlining the valid content for restricted vocabulary fields when running an import - I am trying to do an import and getting a "Range check error" - my import includes the Start Time and Confidentiality, I'm assuming one of these is not in the format Recorder wants, but I have no idea what the format should be, I'd chosen True (0)/False (-1) for confidentiality and 12:00 for start time

With SQL server databases True is usually 1 not -1, if that helps.

Re: Help for running imports

Thanks Rob,

I have subsequently done some tests with a smaller dataset and cannot get it to fail, the Excel True/False and 12:00 as text or hh:mm format all appear to be OK, so something else must  be causing the "Range check error", does anyone have ideas what could be causing it, because the spreadsheet is 84,000 records, so checking every one will take ages!

Re: Help for running imports

Sudden lightbulb moment, I have certainly managed to recreate the error! Recorder doesn't like a recorder in the format "Surname," - i.e. no initials, but the comma still there - this causes the "Range check error"

Re: Help for running imports

The main source of documentation for the format of data to be imported via the wizard is the Help – see Import Wizard – data format. There is a lot of information in the table that lists all the fields that can be imported but it isn’t exhaustive. If you let me know what needs to be added, I will try to incorporate it when I next do Help updates. I have just started the updates for v6.19 and v6.21.
