Topic: Changing recorder & determiner for multiple records

Having imported data from various sources, I find that for one reason or another I have the same person more than once. I want to assign all the records from Person A to Person B.

Doing this manually involves
1) Add Person B as Recorder to the Event record
2) Change Recorder from Person A to Person B in the Sample
3) Delete Person A from the Event record
4) Change the determiner for each Taxon record from Person A to Person B.

If all has gone well, then should be able to manually delete Person A.

Is there any way that this can be automated?

Harry

Have you tried merging items?

Using the menu bar select ... Tools ... Database Tools ... Merge Data Items (and then follow the instructions).

This will automate merging all types of data (people, locations, sources, etc) so you can easily reassign all taxons/biotopes from one person to another by merging one person into another.

Good luck.

Re: Changing recorder & determiner for multiple records

As a follow on to Harry's request,

I have a few records where I have two "John Martin"s and some records have been attributed to the wrong one, unfortunately some are in a readonly MapMate import so cannot be changed as per Harry's original post, others can be changed, but it is tedious! Combine isn't an option because I think they are genuinely different people, is there a way of changing the recorder as Harry originally requested

Re: Changing recorder & determiner for multiple records

Can you identify which records are affected? If you can produce a list of taxon occurrence keys, or identify a field which will allow you to identify the necessary survey events and samples, it would be relatively easy to update them through the linked access database.
