Topic: Drupal Version that Indicia is based on

In reading some of the documentation, it was mentioned that Drupal version 7 would be implemented for "instant Indicia" in the winter of 2012/2013. Has this happened yet and if so does it also support the latest "Views" module associated with Drupal 7?

Hi

First some background for clarity.

Instant Indicia is a handy software budle which includes Drupal, a whole host of useful Drupal modules (such as Views), the IForm module which adds support for doing Indcia type things, and some feature definitions which allow you to turn on some complex features at the click of a mouse.

What we haven't done is create an updated version of Instant Indicia using Drupal 7 and revised modules. In fact all of the downloads are significantly out of date. The rate of change and the pressure on developer time means this has not been a priority.

What we have done is develop a version of the IForm module (and some others) for Drupal 7 which is available for download from the code repoistory.

So, it is not as easy as just installing Instant Indicia, but you can, without too much trouble, install Drupal 7, add in whatever contributed modules you like, including the latest Views module, and the IForm module too. Then proceed with configuring your website.

One of the problems I hit when attempting to bring Instant Indicia forwards was that you hit memory limits in the Drupal installation process if you try to install many modules as part of the installation profile. I am currently working on automating the install of an Indicia ready Drupal 7 setup using Drush (a command line scripting tool for Drupal administrators). If you are interested in this then let me know.

An alternative approach that might be worth looking at is using Vagrant. I've had a lot of success using VMs for development - it creates a nice, sandboxed, controlled environment. Would be good for debugging in particular where you need a known, stable config. There's already a Drupal box available, so you could build on that perhaps?

You can share a local folder on your "real" machine in the guest machine, so that you can seamlessly work between the two; i.e., you don't have to manually transfer files to the guest constantly:
