Topic: Batch Update selection fault

I am on R6 version 6.19.4/Dictionary S
Yesterday I entered some records.
Today I decided to verify the new records so I selected "Open the Observation Window displaying only unchecked observations"

Selected Unchecked
Expanded the hierarchy
Selected an Event
Expanded the Event
Wanted to run Batch Update on the Event to mark Determinations "Correct"
Right clicked on Event

In the Dropdown box which includes....... Add, Sort By, Cut, Copy, Find on Map, Quick Report, Batch Update, Revalidate Record.......the Batch Update Selector leads to a blank box

Also the Quick Report Dropdown box is empty

I last used this feature a little over a week ago. In the meantime I have upgraded from 6.18 to 6.19

Can anyone please tell me if this is a problem introduced by the upgrade?

Is there anything I can do at this end to check out the problem?

I've got some screenshots which I will e-mail to Mike W.

Re: Batch Update selection fault

I have seen this before, but can’t remember in what circumstances.  I seem to remember that the reports were there and you could actually click in the box and run them, just that nothing was displayed.  Don’t think it has anything to do with 6.19 as this area was not touched.  Have you checked  that this still happening after you have shut down the machine and started up again ?

John is on holiday at the moment so can't get his input on this, but will try on a few machines to see if I can duplicate it. Certainly, isn't happening on my Windows 7 machine which is upgraded 6.19

Have tried with a  Windows 8 laptop upgraded to 6.19, but there isn't a problem with this.

Re: Batch Update selection fault

I haven't been able to reproduce  thi3 on any machines, but I have definitely seen it probably when testing 6.18. I am sorry, but we will need to ask John about this one - possibly it may be something to do with the language files.

Re: Batch Update selection fault

Do you mean a missing/corrupted dll file?

It seems that it is only  the text that is missing from the boxes. If for instance I go to the Quick Report box which is also blank and click somewhere in the blank box the report runs. But of course you can't see what you are selecting.

Re: Batch Update selection fault

I was thinking the language fies which control which language R6 uses for  display (Germany and Luxembourg use R6) . I don't actually know if they even have any relevance in this situation.

Re: Batch Update selection fault

There is a file under  User Files\Batch Updates\CrIdx.txt which indexes all the files present in batch updates (similar for reports) and is used to construct the captions, so if there are errors in this file it could cause these symptoms. Please can you secure this file, then delete it from  the folder. Then open Recorder and see if this solves the problem (the file should be recreated). If this doesn't work can we please have a copy of the file, so we can investigate.

Re: Batch Update selection fault

Copied file to desktop, then deleted it in C:\recorder 6\User Files\   Started Recorder, the symptoms are still the same, with Batch Updates and Reports boxes devoid of text as per my earlier screenshots. The file has been recreated. The original file is attached to this post

Re: Batch Update selection fault

Now an even stranger thing has happened - I've got it back....the text in the boxes is now as it should be. All I have done is transfer a backup from R6 on the new laptop to R6 on the old laptop, carried out the batch updates from there and then transferred the dataset back to the new machine. So I don't understand it but the feature is now back as it should be....any thoughts?

Re: Batch Update selection fault

This is a complete mystery. The  Batch Updates have no relationship  with the database until they are run. Will ask John, but we might never know why.
