It worked fine for us, although it took a while. Have you tried a second time?
I notice you are on v6.17 - does the update to R and S require version 6.18? The update worked fine on my v6.18 on Windows 8
Interesting!
I have tried it several times including 'run as Administrator'
I am not on 6.17, but rather 6.19.4.267 according to 'About Recorder 6' but I notice the error report is stating I'm using 6.17, this is a worrying additional problem - one for Sally and Mike I think!

The version in the bug report is the version of DictionaryUpgrade.exe not the version of Recorder 6. To run dictionary upgrades 00000015 onwards you need to be running Recorder 6 v6.18 or later. Did you check that the SQL Server service was running? I occasionally find that something switches it off but I have no idea what does that. You can check it via Control Panel – Administrative Tools – Services – SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS), or some variant on that depending on the operating system and version of SQL Server you use. The Status should be ‘Started’.
Sally,
I have just tried the upgrade again with no one else in the office, SQLServer was running immediately before the upgrade and immediately after, so I assume it was running during the attempt to upgrade, but still get the ODBC connection error, additionally Recorder runs fine, so it cannot see a problem connecting to the SQLServer.
Does the upgrade insist on the instance being called SQLEXPRESS? cos ours is called RECORDER6

Just tried running the upgrade directly on the server running SQLServer (i.e. as a local installation!), firstly it didn't ask me to log on to the SQLServer instance and then it successfully applied the upgrade

I'm getting a different error when I try to run this dictionary upgrade. It gets as far as trying to merge data files and then I get a dialogue box stating: "Unable to create directory". No exception is thrown so there is no bug report I'm afraid.
I'm running 6.19.4.267, and am trying to run the upgrade on a Windows 7 Machine, and my SQL Server build is 10.50.4000.0 (SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 2).
This looks like it is a problem with writing to the windows temporary folder. The zip file is unzipped and written to the folder. First can you double check that you have got 0000001R.zip and 0000001S.sql in the scripts folder. Normally admin users will have write permission on the windows temprorary folder.
To get the full path of the Temp folder. Enter CMD in the 'search programs and files box' , and press Enter. In the resulting Command Prompt enter the command ECHO %TEMP%. (ECHO space %TEMP%). This displays the full path of the actual Temp folder. It will normally take the form C:\users\username\AppData\Local\Temp, where username is your user account name. Try to copy a file into this folder using the permissions you use when running the upgrade.
Schoolboy error on my part. I'd extracted to a subfolder of 'Scripts' and then copied the script files to the correct place but the bonus folder was still there. All appears to be working fine now.
I've had the same problem (as the original post) trying to install Dictionaries 1T-1W, but again running the update directly on the Server solved the problem - it would be good to cure this problem though!
