Topic: Upgrade
I'm shortly going to be upgrading my PCs running a small network install of R6.
Current setup:
Windows server 2003 running SQL Server Express 2005 with 3 XP PCs networked to it
New setup:
Windows 7 Pro 64-bit machine as file server and R6 main machine
Windows 7 Pro machine(s) networked workstations (simple peer-to-peer share)
I assume the process will be:
> install SQL server 2008 on new 'server' machine
> Install R6 on same machine
> upgrade R6 to same version
> detach database and re-attach
> install workstations R6
Two queries:
1) What version of R6 should I start from: I have quite an old CD now. Can I get a newer CD version to start from or download a newer version?
2) When moving R6 database from the old server to new machine - are there any issues when moving (detaching/re-attaching) between different versions of SQL Server Express ?
Are there any other issues/pitfalls I should be aware of?
Currently running R6 v6.18.1.260 if that's of any use.
Thanks
