Topic: Dictionary upgrade problem

I have had a problem with upgrades to the dictionaries.  I missed the notification that the upgrades above 14 were available earlier this year, so have just got around to it today.

I have been running dictionary 14 successfully since it became available, and was until this afternoon on 6.17.1.250.

I have just successfully upgraded R6 to the latest version 6.18.1.260.

I downloaded Rec6Dict_00000015to1N_UnzipMe.zip and unzipped the files to the Scripts folder.  The original .zip file is not in Scripts (I have made that error in the past).  On running the upgrade, a message popped up more or less immediately to say that no upgrade was needed.  R6 still says the dictionary version is still 14.

I repeated the exercise with Rec6Dict_0000001O,1P,1Q_UnzipMe.zip with the same result.

I am running a stand-alone version on Vista.  Advice please.

Thanks,

Murdo

Re: Dictionary upgrade problem

Not sure why this is happening. Scripts folder needs to be in the same folder as DictionaryUpgrade.exe  The scripts folder should contain  00000015.sql to 000001N.zip, but can contain earlier upgrades.  Try running DictionaryUpgrade.exe as Admin by run clicking on it and chossing run as Administrator.

Re: Dictionary upgrade problem

Thanks, Mike.  I ran out of time last night, but have just got back to it.

I powered down last night and restarted just now, so all should be reinitialised.

I restored the backup I made last night before beginning the changes, and 'About R6' shows 6.18.1.260 and dictionary 14, as before.

I removed from the Scripts folder (which is in the same outer folder as DictionaryUpgrade.exe) the 3 files which came with Rec6Dict_0000001O,1P,1Q_UnzipMe.zip and ran the upgrade as Administrator (that should not have made a difference as I am always logged on with admin privileges).  On logging in, the message comes up +- instantly 'Recorder upgrade complete. No Database updates were required'.

Where do I go now?

Re: Dictionary upgrade problem

I think I may have found the problem - a confusion between two folder systems involving the old and new upgrade files.  Hold off until I have checked this.

Re: Dictionary upgrade problem

OK - I have sorted that problem - it was a misdirected shortcut.

However, on running the update now, I get the attached error report.

Re: Dictionary upgrade problem

There is something in script 00000015 which may be causing this. Try substituting the attached for the script 00000015.sql

Re: Dictionary upgrade problem

No change, Mike.  Should you have provided ...15?  The error refers to ...1A.

Re: Dictionary upgrade problem

Do you have Management Studio installed , if so could you check to see if the Organism table is there. Also if you have access to the tables can you check in the settting table what the DB Sequence is. Script 1A is only truncating the Organism table so looks like it may not be there. If not I will do an XML report to check these two things.

Re: Dictionary upgrade problem

There is no Organism table, Mike.

This is the entire Setting table:

Re: Dictionary upgrade problem

The Db sequence isn't correct. It should be up to 92 for a 6.18 upgrade.   This suggests that the upgrade has updated the software, but failed to update the database. Try running tha upgrade again. You try running it specifically as admin as it may be a permissions issue which is causing the problem. Watch for any messages.

Re: Dictionary upgrade problem

Some progress - I restored the backup I had made before all this started and ran the R6 upgrade explicitly as Admin, so now I have settings showing Db sequence = 92 and dictionary 14.  There is still no Organisms table - should there be at this stage?

I will not attempt the dictionary upgrade until next week because of lack of time.

Re: Dictionary upgrade problem

Script 85 creates the Organisn table. Can't see how it can get  to 96 without doing this. Suggest you try the Dictionary upgrade again. Might be better to put 00000015.sql back to the original version.

Re: Dictionary upgrade problem

OK - I will get to that on Monday or Tuesday.  I don't want to do it just now in the light of the warning that it might take hours.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Dictionary upgrade problem

Glad to report that after restoring and running the process again, I am up to date with 6.18 and Dictionary 1Q.  Thanks again for the advice and apologies for the initial problem which was down to me not checking where the Scripts folder shortcut pointed.
