Re: Grid Reference Helper

Hi

I've put together a simple tool to easily find grid references using a combination of OS Maps and Google Maps. Well worth reading the 'A Rough Guide...' bit below the map before you start.

The link is

Re: Grid Reference Helper

Thanks Charles

I think there's a lot of potential for OpenSpace/OpenLayers maps throughout the Recording community.

Re: Grid Reference Helper

Hi Iain

I agree - nice tool by the way. We have focused on OpenLayers for the Indicia project as well and support OS maps through the Multimap layers at the moment, though I am sure we will add OpenSpace directly at some point. OpenLayers is a really powerful tool once you get the hang of it. The other tool I've been using a lot is GeoServer which is a great way to get data onto your OpenLayers maps.

P.S. the code we have developed is open source, so feel free to browse and pinch bits. See jquery.indiciaMapPanel.js in http://code.google.com/p/indicia/source … k/media/js. We've developed our map as a jQuery extension.

Re: Grid Reference Helper

I have to agree it is nice. I've been wanting to have the time to complete something similar. I did wonder if it is possible to get it to return a grid from the cursor position to the copy buffer say from a right-click or a key press. Perhaps the ability to be able to freeze the grid so the reference can be copied rather than visually acquired.

Would you make the code available for others to modify?

Hi

Re: Grid Reference Helper

Hi

Just as a quick update, this has moved to

http://www.ereca.org.uk/OSGridRef.aspx

and is a wee bit different from the original. It now includes a grid ref checker where you can paste in up to 100 grid refs and these will then be plotted on the map
