I'm trying to compact the nbndata.mdb file. It gets to about 205MB (of about 240MB) and the issues the error below.
I fear that this is a symptom of a wider problem, since I have been having issues with the TAXON_OCCURANCE table in our linked database and I've not been able to copy that table into another database. I have been trying to save space on the server, so I may have compressed something that shouldn't have been... but I don't know what.

Further to my last post, the temporary database formed by the compact process contains the following entry in a table called 'MSysCompactError'. The reason I mention it is that this is the error I've been getting when trying to update the linked database.

-1611    The Microsoft Jet database engine stopped the process because you and another user are attempting to change the same data at the same time.    à8    TAXON_OCCURRENCE

After talking through the problem with Sally Rankin, and using JetComp v4.0 to compact the nbndata.mdb all appears to have returned to normal. The database had become corrupted it seems. So many thanks to Sally!

Thanks for the reply. In order to transfer to Recorder 6, I'm working through the document you mention. I have no Temp.mdb file in the Recorder 2002 database folder though. My error message is also slightly different from the examples in the document, which makes me think it have a different cause.
