Topic: Installing Recorder 6 on Windows 7

I have been attempting to install Recorder 6 Version 6.13a on my laptop running Windows 7.
All goes well until a window opens asking for Database Login Options. It asks for the Username and password for server login and also says that it 'requires system administrator privileges on the server'. When it asks for the 'sa' login I assume that this is the Server Administrator login.
I have searched for and found listed, in C:/programs (x86), Microsoft SQL Server.
Can anyone tell me how to overcome this problem?

Re: Installing Recorder 6 on Windows 7

Is there any reason for installing v6.13a?  Users can download the install files for v6.17 these days so there is no need to install older versions. Where you get it from and how to install it is all explained in the latest version of the standalone installation guide which you can get from http://www.recorder6.info/page13.html .  V6.17 is compatible with the Windows 7. Earlier versions could be installed with Windows 7 but if some options weren’t changed problems arose.

Re: Installing Recorder 6 on Windows 7

The reason I am using Recorder v6.13a is because it is the only version I have. I don't particularly want to pay out another £30 for an update fro v6.13a to 6.17. Also this SQL server has me confused. As far as I can tell it is installed on my laptop but I don't know which version it is or how to find out! Also I don't understand what it means by 'administrator privileges'. I am the only user on the laptop and I am already the administrator.
I hope you can help as I am very close to ditching the whole thing and reverting to to Excel!

Re: Installing Recorder 6 on Windows 7

If you can download the Recorder 6 v6.17 install files you won’t need to pay out another £30 for the latest version and it will be easier to install with Windows 7. If you install Recorder 6 with a v6.13a disk, which came out in June 2008, you will be installing an old version and you will have to run more upgrades.  The standalone installation guide provides the information you need to install both SQL Server 2008 Express and Recorder 6 but make sure you are using v4.1 from http://www.recorder6.info/page13.html  not v4.  Recorder 6 stores all its data in a SQL Server database so users need to install SQL Server then install Recorder 6. A version of SQL Server was on the installation disks but because different versions are more applicable to different versions of Windows we now recommend that users install the most applicable version for them then install Recorder 6. http://www.recorder6.info/page13.html and the standalone installation guide are designed to help users make the best choice for them. The version of SQL Server on the v6.13a disks is MSDE, the free run-time version of SQL Server 2000, which isn’t compatible with Windows 7. Do you have any data to transfer from an old installation of Recorder 6 to a new installation?

Re: Installing Recorder 6 on Windows 7

My old computer hard disk, with Recorder 6, crashed and I lost everything. This is why I am trying to install it on my laptop.
I have looked at the JNCC page for downloading Recorder and each download is an upgrade to an earlier version. There seems to be nowhere I can download a new full version.
I have downloaded and installed a copy of SQL Server 2008 R2.

Sally.
Many thanks for your excellent help. It took four tries before I successfully downloaded the standalone file but Recorder 6 is now installed and running.
