I've tried to manually insert the rows into the database and have found something slightly peculiar.
I can manual paste Survey_Event rows into the database, but if the row in question has a comment, I get an error:
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Could not allocate space for object 'dbo.SURVEY_EVENT' in database NBNata because the 'PRIMARY' filegroup is full/ Create disk space by deleting unneded files, dropping objects in the filegroup, adding additional files to the filegroup, or setting the autogrowth on for exisiting files in the filegroup. (#1105).

Does this mean I've reached the maximum files size for my SQL server instance? If I remove the comment, then the same row can be inserted without a problem (unless you count the loss of the comment as a problem!).

It is 2005, and there are about 1.7 million records in it. The dbf is 3763 MB, so not quite up to the maximum. So it could be that this is causing the problem, but I am intrigued that I can manually insert data as long as there is nothing in the comment field. Surely if the database has reached it's maximum, no records could be added regardless of the data type?

Either way I guess it's time to upgrade the SQL Server instance.

I had to force the previous attempt to close as it never completed the 'removing invalid records' process. I have just tried again with the full excel file (1500 records) and it appear to get as far as inserting the taxon_determinations and then throws up the exception. Looking at the database, the sruvey event and samples have been inserted properly, but there does not appear to be any taxon-occurrences - presumably why the taxon_determination fails.

So now I have two issues:
1) what is causing the import to fail
2) how do I get rid of the half-imported records - the first attempts were in a pre-exisiting survey and are therefore mixed up with other, valid records.
