Topic: Verification

Does the Record Cleaner have synonyms for common names or scientific names.  Moth species such as "The Chestnut" fail verification currently.
Alternatively, is it possible for a user to provide local rules that will allow mapping from a species name such as "The Flame" to a TVK rather than have the NBN verification fail the record?

Re: Verification

According to the docs, when you match a name to a TVK, that match is stored in your local configuration. I'm not sure but I think you could probably locate the files in which those matches are stored and share them with your.

Re: Verification

NBN Record Cleaner does try to match common name or synonym to the preferred scientific name. It uses the UK Species Inventory maintained by the Natural History Museum (the same dictionary used in Recorder and NBN Gateway). The issue with these 2 moth names is that the common name does not include "The" in the species dictionary. ie the names are "Flame" and "Chestnut".

Removing "The" from the name should allow the NBN Record Cleaner to match the name. Alternatively if you right click on the name in the data cleansing form a box should appear to allow you to manually match the name. Remove "The" from "list name starting with" and type in the name eg Flame should then allow you to find the name in the drop down box. This matching will be saved if you previously saved a template following the field matching steps and will be available when you next use the template

Best wishes

Re: Verification

Thanks Graham and Charles.

I've created a template and see they are stored in the UserSettings folder in the UserUnknownSpeciesTransforms.xml file.

Thanks
