Topic: Preferred Name - what's the point?

I'm currently trying to sort out various taxonomic naming issues in Recorder (which I really shouldn't be doing on a Friday...). I think I have almost wrapped my head around it all - but have a question:

What's the point of the "preferred name" in Recorder? Where is it used?

I think that where a given species in a particular list has more than one synonym, one will be preferred (for that list).

If the list is question is the preferred list for that taxonomic group, the preferred name will also be the recommended name.

But I could be wrong.
