Topic: v6.18 and Excel 2007-2010 Export problem?

Hi all,

Has anyone else tried (and failed) to export to XLSX format? My first attempt failed, >64Kb lines. From what I can see form the subsequent Excel repair only numeric fields were fixed. Any field with any other character-type was blank.

If you export in Xlsx format less than  64kb lines does this work ?

Hi Mike,

I was going to do that but you beat me to it! Yes it opens fine. I'm using Excel 2007.

Has anyone else tried a large export to an xlsx file please. It works with 250,000 records from my test data.

I just exported 100,080 lines fine. Les do you mean 64,000 lines or 64kb in file size?

Re: v6.18 and Excel 2007-2010 Export problem?

Hi Charlie, I did mean 65,535 lines (64K). I tested two report outputs, one less than and one greater than. The latter failed every time when I tried to open the file saying it was corrupt.

Just a thought, does your installation of excel open files with more than 64k lines from another source? It could be a fault in excel rather than recorder

Hi Rob,

Yes, Excel is working fine. I can happily open files far larger than 64k lines without error from other sources.

Re: v6.18 and Excel 2007-2010 Export problem?

I've done some further testing and it seems possible the error is due to an undeclared entity (or corruption) in the Comment of a particular record in the export. I have a 22-column report which exports <64k-lines that failed today. I removed the Comment column from the report and it was successful. I suspect the same will be true for any export of >64k-lines, if there is an Undeclared Entity in any field of a particular record.

Re: v6.18 and Excel 2007-2010 Export problem?

Ah, interesting. We had the same problem exporting to Access 2007 databases since the upgrade. It only happens when there was a Comment field in the export (which is text data type and is thus effectively unlimited in size.)

Must be something in the new code which allows export to office 2007 format which doesn't handle these big text fields correctly.

Re: v6.18 and Excel 2007-2010 Export problem?

Still struggling with this issue but I suspect as it is a 3rd-party tool a fix is very unlikely so this is just to make users aware that an XLSX export may not always work and if this is the case, just export to TXT and import the TXT file to Excel and save as an XLSX file.

Re: v6.18 and Excel 2007-2010 Export problem?

We were hoping that the the 6.18 build 260 would fix both the Access and the Excel issues.  If this isn't the case then we can look at it further.
