Topic: Import Wizard not working

We have Recorder 6.17.1 running on our government network. Unfortunately I am not allowed to use SQLMS or have access to anything except the front end of Recorder as an administrator user.

The Import Wizard is not working ... even with the simplest dataset, I have tried several different ones.
Everything goes fine until the final stage of the import... when I get the error message that I have attached as a jpeg image.

many thanks
Philippa

Is everything else OK ? Can you input data through the observation hierarchy etc. ?

Re: Import Wizard not working

If you search the forum for SQLSERVER_SURVEY_EVENT from your error message you will see that others have had this problem. In some cases it has happened because they have reached the limit on the size of the database in their system but I would only expect this to happen with MSDE installations or with databases containing 2 million plus observations in SQL Server 2005 Express installations – see  http://forums.nbn.org.uk/viewtopic.php?pid=9737#p9737 for information on database sizes. It might be worth looking at some of the other posts containing SQLSERVER_SURVEY_EVENT for other possibilities. http://forums.nbn.org.uk/viewtopic.php?pid=5805#p5805 says it was a permissions problem (22/01/2010).

Re: Import Wizard not working

Further thoughts on this are that error messages like yours have also been known to occur when the Last_Key table is out of date. There is an add-in that updates this table which can be downloaded from http://jncc.defra.gov.uk/page-4597 . Please try this. If this table isn’t out of date, running it will simply report that no updates are required.

Re: Import Wizard not working

This problem is now sorted. This is how it was resolved:
The workstation login account (DOMAIN\Username)of the Recorder user attempting the import requires explicit permissions on the Recorder SQL database (NBNData).   On the live SQL server hosting the Recorder database, the workstation login account needs to be granted rights to access the NBNData database (via SQL Management Studio) – with the roles ‘Public’, ‘db_datareader’and ‘db_datawriter’. If required permissions can be assigned via an Active Directory Group to cover multiple domain accounts.

In our case ‘db_datawriter’ was not ticked!
