Topic: Taxon aggregates

Hi
I've just acquired Recorder 6 and am gradually getting to grips with it.  I have a question about aggregate taxons.  Some moths are frequently grouped together due to the challenges of identifying to species level.  For example Acleris ferrugana & Acleris notana ; Common Marbled Carpet and Dark Marbled Carpet.  As a result many recording schemes (including those run by county recorders) accept these groupings as a record and have Bradley number adapted to represent the aggregate group, eg 1044x to represent Acleris ferrugana/notana or 1762x to represent Common Marbled Carpet agg.  The taxon list in Recorder 6 doesn't appear to have these aggregate groups listed.  Are aggregates acceptable in Recorder 6 or not?  If so should I create my own aggs?
TIA

Re: Taxon aggregates

Hi Phil,

The two dictionaries prefixed with " LEPIDOPTERA" are the preferred dictionaries and don't contain aggregates as neither dictionary they reflect lists aggregates.

For the National Moth Recording Scheme I search both BRC's RA8 dictionary and "List of additional species" for aggregates that are not listed in the preferred dictionaries. There may be one or two missing but these can easily be requested via this forum under "Species dictionary".

Re: Taxon aggregates

Thanks Les.  I clearly need to explore the dictionaries/lists in more detail :-)
