Topic: Problems with zero abundance data

I've been having a few problems with some zero abundance records imported into R6 from Excel.  When I am reporting or exporting and I request to leave out zero abundance records, the records still appear in the results. The spreadsheets from which these originated seem OK (i.e. no spare spaces next to the '0'). Curiously, if I edit the records and re-type a '0'  these perform as they should, and are omitted when requested.

Anyone else experienced any similar problems?

For interest for those who have zero abundance records on their systems, the behaviour when reporting seems to be as follows:  where there are multiple zero abundances (0 males, 0 females) then these are omitted from results when 'exclude zero abundance data' is selected (in my case after manual editing), and where there are multiple abundances and only one is '0' (0 males, 2 females) then both abundances are reported, including the zero one.   This I understand is the expected behaviour.

Re: Problems with zero abundance data

It does seem there might be problem with the Import Wizard in certain circumstances see http://forums.nbn.org.uk/viewtopic.php?id=4130 , although as you see from the post, it isn't something that we haven't been able to reproduce in testing.  The immediate solution will be a Batch  update which recalculates the zero abundance flag and I will see what I can do, although it is going to be fairly complicated.

Re: Problems with zero abundance data

Attached is a Batch Update which should bring the zero abundance flag in line with the data.  This has only been tested by me so please make sure you have a back up and check the results carefully. Copy the file into the R6 Batch Update folder.

In checking the update I noticed that the Extra Info addin for the Observation Hierarchy was not correctly reporting on zero abundance and have corrected this. the new version is attached to the post at  http://forums.nbn.org.uk/viewtopic.php?pid=16151#p16151

Many thanks Mike. I'll have a go and let you know how I got on.

Re: Problems with zero abundance data

Just to let you know that the batch update worked fine and seems to have corrected the zero abundance flag in the database. Records now behave as expected.

Thanks
