Topic: R6 re-installation. Problems relating to file & folder settings

Following on from my recent re-installation (see thread Restoring R6 backup copy when rebuilding system), I have somehow managed to do some damage, and I can't use Recorder again.

To explain, I had a puzzling duplication of PC users on this machine (duplication of all my documents and folders, no doubt caused by somebody that rebuilt my PC), and was trying to rationalise my PC.  I saw that there was a "Public" user, with nothing in it except what seemed to be some old stuff from Recorder in \Public\Public documents\, etc.

I got rid of it ....!

I solved my first message, by recreating the folders (I see there is a related message in the release notes), so I now have an error message that's actually been stored.
The essential message is that:
The Batch Update Path setting is missing or incorrect. Recorder is not installed properly and cannot start.

I think that shooting myself might be preferable to re-installing Recorder, so can somebody please tell me what I have to do to replace deleted files/folders (can't find in my recycle bin - I've looked)?

Thanks
Nigel

Re: R6 re-installation. Problems relating to file & folder settings

You may possibly have deleted the path to the Batch Update and if so possibly some of the other required folders . On a normal Windows 7  install the Batch Update path is C:\Users\Public\Documents\Recorder 6\User Files\Batch Updates\

First step is to check to see if this is there.

For a more detailed check you will need to check the registry using regedit.  In regedit you need to look in HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Dorset Software/Recorder 6 /Settings. On the right hand side when settings is selected you will see the paths which Recorder is using.  I suggest you check anything with a path of C:\Users\Public\Documents .... to make sure the paths are available. The files/folder  may simply have been moved elsewhere  - if so then you need to find them and change the regsistry to point accordingly.

Thanks Mike.  Sorted!  I found a copy of the missing folders from a previous installation, copied them into the right place in the "Public" area, and Recorder seems happy again.
