Topic: Unable to delete duplicate authors

Following an import from R6 to R6 we have a lot of duplication within our master tables which we will eventually resolve by using the 'Merge' database tool.  However, when I tested this with documents I found that the remaining document doubled up on authors and that the delete button was turned off when I tried to delete the extra one.  Ideas anyone?

Cheers.

Re: Unable to delete duplicate authors

I have run a test on this. It will double up on authors, which is just the way the merge works ( I can explain further if required). However, I would expect you to be able to delete the unwanted author. Only  reason that I can think why this isn't working is if you are not the Custodian of Document.

Re: Unable to delete duplicate authors

I've checked the tables in SQL Server and you are right about the custodianship.  We don't have custodianship of both of the merged document references but are still permitted to merge, so presumably it is the custodianship of the Reference_Author record that is blocking us from deleting the extra author?

If we decide that we cannot live with the duplicated names, would it mess up the database integrity if I manually swap the custodianship of Reference_Author to ourselves?

Re: Unable to delete duplicate authors

It would be fine to do this, especially as you intend to delete the record.
