Re: Unhandled Error Message!!

Hello Forum
I was continually receiving an "Unhandled Error" message in Recorder 6.13.2.176 making use of Recorder impossible.

So I therefore upgraded to 6.17.1.250 via the JNCC website (upgrading incrementally as suggested), however, the problem persists, if anything it seems worse.

During the upgrade to 6.17.1 (from 6.16.2) an error message appeared and ask me to either continue or abort the upgrade – although I aborted my Version did upgrade to 6.17.1.250.

I think I may have tracked the “unhandled Error” problem to a corrupted data entry file. Whenever I try to look at this file the error message pops up – and continues to do so whatever ever I do.

I have tried to delete the offending Sample although as soon as I try to select it the error message pops up (without selecting it) and so I cant.  I have also tried to delete the Event but of course it won’t allow me to do so as it still contains the Sample.

As first step I think I need to get rid of this sample. Does anyone know how I can delete this sample? It may not actually be the problem but Recorder certainly doesn’t like it.

Any advice gratefully received.
Thanks Andrew

Re: Unhandled Error Message!!

Can you tell me what the error message is or provide the error file. It may be something missing in one of the tables referenced by sample and we may be able to fix this. If not there is batch update which will delete the sample and survey event if necessary. If this fails I will take a look for you if you can provide a copy of your backup file.

Re: Unhandled Error Message!!

Hello Mike

Thanks for replying,

I'm not sure how to dowload an image onto the Forum so I have emailed you a screen shot.

however, the error message states "an unhandled error has occured in the application"....it then goes  to decribe the error as "Fatal error 823.."

I am emailing the screen shot as well.

I hope you have a good bank holiday.

Thanks Andrew

Re: Unhandled Error Message!!

Hello Sally

Thanks for getting back to me. I have copied over both Sy06 and Sy07 as suggested and run them via Reports - Run-System Reports--Infomation--...

However, both reports are blank and no errors are displayed.
The "Bug Report" (which I dont understand) states:
"exeption class - EOleExeception
exception message - Warning: Fatal error 823 occurred at May 5 2012 8:07pm"

I'll email you the bug report seperatley ' - I am not sure how to upload images (its a pdf) on the the forum posts!!!!

Looking on the Recorder help menu, it advises the following, however I have not done this yet as I am a bit nervous of unistalling stuff in case I cant re install it easily and I looking at the correct problem.

"Error Message:
EOleException : Class not registered

System details:
6.10.4.120 / 6.13

Context:
Occurred during importing data

Suggestion / Solution:
The error message indicates that it's caused by something external to core Recorder - as this occurs during import it is likely to be the validation library. A suggestion would be to log in as someone with local machine admin rights on this machine, log in to Recorder, select Tools\Install\Add-in module. Select Recorder 6 Standard Validation, then click Remove. Now restart Recorder and go back to this dialog. Click Install, then browse to your Addins folder in the Recorder 6 server install folder, and select StdValLib.dll. Uninstalling an application external to Recorder had corrupted the Windows Registry - a complete system rebuild was necessary which solved the Recorder problem "

I'll bob over an email with the Bug Report.

Thanks Sally

Kind Regards Andrew Perry

Re: Unhandled Error Message!!

Hello Sally I hope you are well and thanks for all your help and for chatting today.

I replaced the 7Zsql file in the 6.15.4 - 6.17.1 Upgrade Kit as suggested and Recorder has upgraded successfully.

I had some trouble upgrading the Dictionary by putting several Upgrade SQLs in the Script folder within the Dictionary Upgrade Kit.  I therefore just went through each Dictionary Upgrade sequentially from F through to Y (my dictionary was version E).  On each occasion Recorder displayed a message that stated "Recorder upgrade complete. No database updates were required”.  So I went onto the next.  However, on checking my Dictionary Version Recorder has upgraded only to version  "G".

The rebuilding of my “Taxon Groups Index” was successful, however, when I tried to rebuild my “Taxon Name Index” an unhandled error message popped up "Fatal Error 823" and when I tried to rebuild my “Synonym Index” and “Designation Index” I received another error message "Connection Failure".

I restarted Recorder and tried again to rebuild the “Taxon Synonym Index”(to avoid the unhandled error message) and this time succeed, however, on trying to rebuild the “Taxon Name Index” I received the same unhandled error message as before (Fatal error 823).

So in summary, although I have upgraded Recorder, I can’t upgrade my Dictionary, or rebuild my Taxon groups and my Checklists are uninstalled.
I am not sure what to do now, so any advice or help would be gratefully received.
Thanks
