Hi All

I’m currently trying to produce a report in Recorder 6 that includes a field containing the ‘Parent Site’ (as it was known in Rec3)… I.e. the top-level site in the hierarchy as well as the ‘Location’ name.   

I’ve had a look through the available attribute columns in the report wizard and I can’t find an obvious equivalent of the ‘Parent site’, only the ‘Sample Location’ (which is most often a sub-site of a larger site).

The way our own site hierarchy is set up I find that having just the  ‘Location’ (or sub-site) name in a report, doesn’t make much sense without the name of the site it belongs to, especially in the case where the 'Location' is a stretch of a river.

Has anyone found a way of exporting the parent site field in Recorder 6?

‘Parent Site’ doesn't exist in Recorder  6 - to get the top level location of a hierachy you have to loop through the hierachy until you hit the top.

Which has to be done via XML reports - see http://forums.nbn.org.uk/viewtopic.php?id=2966

(I don't know off the top of my head if this could be added as an option to the Report Wizard?)

The way I get around this is to try to make sure that all the sub-site locations include the name of the parent, and to have a secondary name that reverses it for ease of searching, e.g. preferred name - Dunham Massey: North Park, secondary name - North Park, Dunham Massey. The number of Beacon Hills, Home Farms and South Parks I would have to deal with otherwise...

Hopefully someone may be able to quickly put together a batch update that could do this for you?
