Re: OpenGeo suitable for an Indicia Warehouse?

Is there any reason not to use OpenGeo Community Edition for our Warehouse?

Or is it overkill? It seems like a convenient way of getting PostgreSQL, PostGIS, GeoServer and other goodies installed onto various server operating systems.

Or is it better to stick to manual installation of components?

Re: OpenGeo suitable for an Indicia Warehouse?

From my experience, installing pg, PostGIS and GeoServer on a Windows or Mac has been pretty easy, though not so for Linux servers where I found lots of version dependencies with various packages. So if I had to repeat the Linux server install again (you know the one I mean!) and an OpenGeo install was available then definitely it would make sense to try it.
A few bits of OpenGeo are not really necessary for us as we integrate OpenLayers anyway and don't use GeoExt, though I doubt the OpenGeo install of these will cause any problems. Likewise GeoWebCache - it looks very interesting though I've not yet managed to make it behave in a useful fashion.
Best wishes

Re: OpenGeo suitable for an Indicia Warehouse?

Well, the reason I ask it because I've found I can have a Memset server running a plain Ubuntu instance. I'm using an Ubuntu VM as a test bed also. I'll let you know how I get on with installing all of the required components seperately. This is why I was asking in the other thread about the older version of pgsql - I want to stick to defaults and supported version of things wherever I can.
