Re: Common Names mixed between lists

Along similar lines to my other issue about sort order there are problems with common names when reporting via the report wizard.

When I do a report on birds and sort by common name I get Blackbird against records recorded to the Recorder 3.3 list and Common Blackbird against the Birds list. (Some Taxon Sort Orders are blank and they are ones that have the common name typed in on the Dets tab. And then there are different order numbers Blackbird in Rec3.3 is 47279 and in the Birds list Common Blackbird 660).

Why is it reporing different common names when it successfully produces a report searching all the lists containing birds? Surely the preferred name should be used against all lists so it should be consistently reporting now Common Blackbird with a sort order of 660 irrespective of whether I enter it under the Recorder 3.3 list, Birds list or whatever?

Re: Common Names mixed between lists

Brian, in the report wizard, are you using the Recommended Sort Order attribute, or the Taxon Sort Order? You need to use the former to sort across lists. The Recommended Sort Order number for the Blackbird is 10600000660.

There's also a Recommended Taxon Name, but this returns the recommended scientific name. Unfortunately, there's no way to extract the recommended common name from the Report Wizard.

Re: Common Names mixed between lists

Charles,

Thanks that works great. I was using the wrong attribute. I thought it was there, I even remember seeing it done before so I was ever so confused when it did not work. I will have to inform all our users and get it noted down!

In terms of the Preferred common name though, is this not something that could be easily added in to the report wizard as it is for the preferred scientific name (Sarah)?

Thanks again
