Re: workstation setup on windows 7

Hi,

Got the latest network install cd 6.15.4.238. After install of recorder network version, i tried to install a client workstation install on windows 7 prof. .It seems that the recorder workstation has some problems with paths. If i use the default workstation install directory, which is some thing like:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Recorder....

the following behavior occurs: If running Recorder directly after setup "Run recorder now" every thing seems to work. But starting Recorder again, it couldnt find map files. Reset of the map dosent work neither.

Error code 5. - File access denied - C:\Program Files (x86)\Recorder 6 Workstation\Map Files\MapUserSheet.gsf

Indeed such a file dosent exists.

Now; if installing recorder workstation in an other directory location like c:\recorder, this map location error dosent occurs.

Best wishes,
Armand

Re: workstation setup on windows 7

The problem is that the files which need to be modified by the user are going into the program files folder. Under  Windows 7  this is a protected folder and the folders/files within it  can only be modified with Adminstrator permissions, which you do have during the install, but not when you login the next time. You have already found one of the suggested solutions which is to install Recorder in another folder.  The alternative is to move the appropriate files into another directory and change the registry to point to these instead of program files. This is probably a more secure approach in that the other parts of the application remain in Program Files where they are to some extent protected.

Modify paths to the map folders in the registry and moving the map folders to a new location works fine. The only problem is that the map files in the new location are ignored from the uninstall.

Recorder will have to be modified at some point to install/uninstall properly under Windows 7 as it does with Vista.

I've tried this but I get the error "no valid base maps can be located on the base map file path"?

I'm about to install Recorder 6 Workstation v6.17 on Windows 7 for the first time. Has anyone written a step-by-step guide on how to do this as I understand there are issues with this process?

I managed to do it with no great shakes. The Workstation install runs fine but Registry fine-tuning was needed to get Recorder 6 to run, specifically the paths.
