Re: Maps post 6.17 upgrade

I am still having problems on our server based Recorder since the 6.17 upgrade. I recently went to use the report wizard to draw up a taxon list for a site defined by a polygon. This used to work on my 64 bit workstation, but I now I get the error message listed below. I don't use the mapping option very often and I went to check the maps and found that I cannot access them anymore despite the base maps and polygons being listed in the map options. However when accessed from another 32 bit workstation the mapping and report work ok.
As an aside we are still unable to get the map selector to work even after getting the map selector software upgrade (we still get the 'Recorder not properly installed or set-up. Can't find Site ID' error message) and so cannot use the OS map tiles on any of our machines.

We are not sure but think that the maps are not configured correctly. It would be worth trying the system check utility http://forums.nbn.org.uk/uploads.php?file=RecorderSystemCheck%20v1.1.zip if you haven't already done so. This may give more indication as to where the problem is. If not we suggest checking through each map registry entry and clearing out folders except base maps, then a full reset.

The NBN map selector will only if you have the Access datbase NBNdata.mdb correctly linked to Recorder 6.  If you have MS Access you can check that NBNData.mdb is linked to the SQL Server tables.  If it isn't you can manually link the tables (using ODBC) or create a new NBNData.mdb and    link that to SQL Server. 

If this fails then the best bet is to install the Map tiles on a standalone copy of R6  (say on a laptop ) and then copy over the gsf files generated to your server. These can then be directly loaded into Recorder.

I tried the system check and it said that there was a problem with the Map File Path registry setting pointing to the wrong directory. Our IT person has since changed the registry settings to those of another workstation from which maps can be accessed (a 32 bit machine). However this hasn't resolved the problem - we are still unable to access the map function on our 64 bit workstations. Until the 6.17 upgrade the map function was working OK. As we use site polygons to produce taxon reports for sites the loss of this function is particularly annoying.
Considering the on-going nature of the problems we have had with Recorder since the upgrade my answer to the person asking whether they should upgrade their instalation to version 6.17 would be don't do it until all the problems have been sorted out.
With regards to the problems with the NBN OS map selector until we get the mapping function working there is no point in pursuing this further.
