Re: exporting data

Hi
I have been trying to export 100,000+ records but am finding it very slow going. The initial bulk export didn't work so am now exporting records one survey at a time, but this is taking a lot of time ie. over an hour for 5,000 records.
Is there a way to speed this process up?  or am I doing something wrong?

Re: exporting data

Which version of R6 are you on ? Version 6.16 speeded up the export process considerably.

Re: exporting data

We have ran the recent update - version 6.17. I have noticed it's a little slower to open up Recorder initally as well.

Re: exporting data

I wouldn't have expected a  problem with this. Certainly 6.17 didn't  include any changes to exporting.
Are you exporting  in  Access zipped file format or in XML ?

Re: exporting data

I am exporting a report generated via Report Wizard, selecting vascular plants in a certain Vice County. Is there an easier way of exporting records to pass to a satellite site for use on thier Recorder?

Re: exporting data

You have some control over  what  you export via Tools/Export Management/Mange Export Filter, but it shouldn't matter how you get to the records to export and using the report Wizard should  be fine for the filtering you are doing.  You should include  observation/obs key in the ouput, but you don't need anything else for the export to work. Is it the report or the actual export which is taking the time. When you get to the Export window which Export Type are you choosing ? The best one is   NBN Access Database zipped.

When it fails what is happening. is it stopping a particular point.

I ahve just run a test doing a zipped file export from a report wizard report. It took 1 hour to export 250,000 records.

Re: exporting data

The problem was the actual exporting part, but this morning I have been trying exporting using NBN Access Database zipped and it is a zillion times faster, thank you!
Just exported 15,000 records in under 10 mins, it's also handling multiple surveys.

Many many thanks
