Re: Publication of Integrated Red List Status checklist in Recorder

Publication of Integrated Red List Status checklist in Recorder

JNCC have produced a draft compilation of current Red Data List status for all GB taxa.  This draft also includes conservation status information from several other sources including Biodiversity Action Plan Priority Lists, species listed on European Directives, species listed on the schedules of the Wildlife & Countryside Act etc.  This list is available for download from our website.

JNCC are currently reviewing this list to rectify any problems with the aim of producing a regularly updated definative GB Red Data List.  The list will use current species names but will not include full taxonomy; this information will, as at present, be available via the NBN species dictionary.  We will however show the name given to a species in publications that are still in use e.g. the Habitats Directive, where this is different from the up to date current name.  Red Data List status will be reviewed as part of a rolling programme i.e. not all statuses will be reviewed every year.

The first, date stamped version of the list will be published through the JNCC website in April 2007 and we hope to make it available through the NBN species dictionary (and hence Recorder) shortly after that. Over this time we will also be considering how to best integrate this into the reporting functionality in Recorder and making any improvements necessary.

Further updates on the integration of this work into Recorder will be provided in the 'Recorder 6 Development Plan' (provided regularly on the uploads page) in the new year. If you have any queries regarding species status please contact Deborah Procter at JNCC.

Many thanks
