Re: Problems installing standalone R6 on Windows 7 Laptop

I'm trying to install a new standalone version of Recorder 6 (V 6.15.4d) onto a Windows 7 laptop, and I can't get SQL server Express to install.
The installer gets so far and then gives an error message "An error occurred during the installation of assembly "Microsoft VC80.ATL,processorArchitechture="x86",type = "Win32", version "8.0.50727.42" Publickey Token = "1fc8b39a1e18e3b". Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x800736FD."

I can't find any reliable and useful information to solve this problem. The same error occurs if you try installing SQL Server Management Studio Express, SQL Server Express 2005 or SQL Server Express 2008.

I'm stuck, so any thoughts would be gratefully received.

I am not sure which version SQL Express you have used. the one on the CD and some other version which are available from the MS web site will not install on Windows 7.  I know that  SQL Server 2005 sp4 from the microsoft web site will install on Windows without a problem. If you haven't already tried this then give it a try. If the problem persists then we need to think again.

Re: Problems installing standalone R6 on Windows 7 Laptop

I started off with Express 2008, then tried Express 2005 (I don't know which sp), then Express 2005 sp4. None of them installed. As I stated before, I couldn't even get Management Studio to install.

I fear that the problem is with the laptop - the operating system had not been updated since May.

The Microsoft support site had the helpful suggestion of running MalwareBytes to remove unwanted spyware - oddly enough this did nothing to resolve the issue. Another suggestion on a website that I didn't like the look of suggested changing the registry setting 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Control > RegistrySizeLimit' to 'FFFFFF'. I didn't want to try this as it is not a value I know anything about and it's not my laptop!

Re: Problems installing standalone R6 on Windows 7 Laptop

As you say searches seem to indicate some registry  problem so it is probably the lap top.   SQL Server 2008 R2 Express and SQl Server 2005 SP4 both install on both the early version of Windows 7 and those upgraded to the latest service pack.  At the moment it is best to install SQL server 2005 for use with Recorder as the current install  will not work with SQL Server 2008 without getting additional software from the MS web site.
