Re: Known Issue: Mapping in Recorder 6 in Windows 7 Home Premium

I came across this in the Known issues and errors page on the Recorder site.

Known Issue:
Mapping in Recorder 6 in Windows 7 Home Premium

Description:
Unable to produce distribution maps running Recorder in Windows 7.

Can I assume that this is still current? My installation put everything under Program Files and did not create c:\ProgramData.

Thanks

It is still a problem. If you create a new folder which you can as a normal users both read from and write to you can move all the users files into this. You then need to change the  registry to point the files to the appropriate place. I think this has been explained somewhere on the forum, but can't see it at the moment.

There is a solution provided, including changing the registry entry, on the page that describes the problem on the Recorder site.

Is this what you mean?

That's  the one. I thought it was a forum post.  I would advise creating a folder of your own rather than using program data, but as long as you can write to it then any folder will do.

Re: Known Issue: Mapping in Recorder 6 in Windows 7 Home Premium

I've followed all the instructions there and everything seems to be OK. I imported a small dataset to work with and distribution maps seem to be fine.

I also managed to solve the backup problem, using SQL Server 2005 Management Studio Express, though not sure how! I followed the instructions that Sally gave at
http://forums.nbn.org.uk/viewtopic.php?id=2207
but still couldn't create a backup
BUT I found that I could then use View or Change Backup Location (which had previously given an error message) to change the Backup Location again and then I could do a backup.

With luck, things should now run smoothly ................. but I'll test everything out before I try to import large amounts of data.
