Re: Phase 1 development information

For anyone who is interested, here are a couple of updates on the online recording project so far. Firstly, we have a project name, kindly suggested by Charles R, which is Indicia (pronounced in-dee-shee-ah). This is latin for data, and is also used in the English language to mean a sign indicating the presense of something which seems appropriate. Don't forget that this is the tool that "powers" online recording websites - you will be free to name your sites as you see fit!

Second, a quick summary of what we are up to and progress so far. The first month's plan is as follows:
- Produce a data model
- Produce a component for doing a nice, paginated, sortable and filterable grid that we can use for browsing data throughout the application.
- Write all the administration screens for the core of the system, including things like user maintenance, termlist and taxon list maintenance and setting up new websites.
- Start working on the webservices that will drive things like auto-complete text boxes (e.g. when typing in a species name).
- Develop the csv upload and download facilities.

We are currently setting up a Google Code account for the source code so you will be able to see progress, and have also decided to stick to the JQuery library for JavaScript in the application. I'll post on here when there is something worth seeing on the Google Code account.

Best Wishes
