Topic: R6 to Windows 11

I need to transfer our R6 to a Windows 11 machine, but have been unable to get far with this.

I have downloaded from http://www.recorder6.info/page16.html the Version 6:30  - STANDALONE -  SQL SERVER 2008 to 2014  -  630_Standalone_2008.

Looking on line for the appropriate SQL server has been utterly confusing, however.

Can someone please advise where I can find the required version of SQL server (and any other software that I might need)?  The URL would be good to have.

Thanks in advance,

Murdo

Re: R6 to Windows 11

I wouldn't advise putting a version less than SQL SERVER 2017 on a Windows 11 machine.  https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downloa … ?id=55994. If you are on Sql Server 2014 then no issue, but if it is 2008 or 12 then let me know and I will advise further. It will help if you also install Management Studio - latest version will be fine. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/ssms/ … rver-ver15

If you use SQL Server 2017 then you will need to  SQL SERVER 2016 to 2019 Recorder6 software. Nothing else should be required.

Thanks for that quick reply, Mike.  All seems to have installed as it should, so I will get to updating dictionary and the rest now.

Re: R6 to Windows 11

Hi

Not sure about your situation so sorry if this isn't relevant. The dictionary is held in your db so when you attach the existing db to the new SQL instance then it will be as up to date as it was before. There is no point in running dictionary updates on the version added by the R6 install as this will be overwritten by your existing db.

Re: R6 to Windows 11

I had wondered if that was the case, Mike, and was going to check before doing anything more labour-intensive, so thanks for confirming!
