Re: upgrade problems

Following the upgrade to 6.13.2.176 we have found the following problems:

•    Adding taxon/biotope occurrence using observation hierarchy uses your name and todays date as the default values
•    Help no longer works despite being present on a local drive
•    The LastError file is no longer created
•    Entering a location name with an apostrophe causes an exception, and if the records will not be saved if the Location name is then edited. The only way to get the record in is to close the recording card and start again.
•    Delete Survey add-in does not work (I know this isn't a Dorset add-in, but thought it should be reported all the same).

For so many issues to have come up since the upgrade I  feel that these are probably all symptoms of a single fundamental problem, but what is that problem?

Re: upgrade problems

Hi David,

I think Steve may be able to help with your latest post (I'm guessing it might have something to do with the last key on your system.....but I'm guessing) - I've pointed it out to him.

Your previous post - adding biotope/taxon occurrences via the observation hierarchy does indeed fill in todays date (I'd half noticed this - I'll check whether this is something new or an old issue and get this fixed - it should be filled in with the date of the survey event and sample).
-Help should work (mine does, no-one else reported it not working)
-My LastError.txt files are working fine also (I will ask Steve - may be to do with your latest post issue)
-I have reproduced the apostrophe error when entering via a single species record card (when filling in the 'location name' field) and will get this fixed.
-delete survey addin - as per my previous post Steve is looking into this.

Hope this helps, a bit.
Lynn

Re: upgrade problems

Re. LastError.txt, does the currently logged in user have permissions to write to the Recorder program folder? I know that you can't write to any of the folders within Program Files by default on Vista, but this is also the case if you're running as a limited user (i.e., a non-admin) on XP.

Re: upgrade problems

No errors have been written to file since I upgraded last Thursday, regardless of which workstations I use to generate the exception, including my own. None of the workstations have changed in any way to my knowledge, and all are running XP. Of course it's always possible that a Windows Update has stuffed things up (as I believe was the original problem Help not running over a network).

Re: upgrade problems

Dave
May have half solved the DeleteSurvey Addin problem (we have possibly exposed another one!). Can you try creating a C:\temp directory on the machinewhere you are running the addin from. There was a load of debug code being written to a file (part of tracking down an earleir problem) and the file was being written to C:\temp. If that doesnt exist it may through the error you are getting.
We will take that debug log out of the next version - but creating the directory ought to fix the problem for now.

Re: upgrade problems

Thanks Steve, the addin now runs at least, but after asking me if I'm sure I get a 'Failed to delete Survey' message.  Do I need everyone to be logged out of Recorder for it to work?

Re: upgrade problems

HI Dave
In theory it should still work with people logged in PROVIDED that no-one is accessing anything to do with that survey. Ie. if someone else has a lock on a record within the survey then it will fail. So in short - logging everyone out is way to be sure but as I understand it it should still work provided none ofthe rercords are being accessed.

Re: upgrade problems

Ok, I'll try again when everyone has gone home, but I don't think anyone should have been accessing those records (The survey has been renamed to indicate it is going to be deleted).

Re: upgrade problems

Many thanks, Steve & Lynn,
I tried again with version 6.0.0.29 after everyone had left and it worked, and have just tested it again with people working and it appears to be fine.
