Topic: BTO datasets updated on the NBN Atlas

Hello,
The large BTO + partners dataset has been updated to include records up to the end of 2019. The single, very large, dataset has been replaced by five smaller datasets, which will be easier for us to manage and update. The datasets are:

Birds (BTO+partners) to 2005: https://registry.nbnatlas.org/public/show/dr528
Birds (BTO+partners) 2006 - 2010: https://registry.nbnatlas.org/public/show/dr2380
Birds (BTO+partners) 2011 - 2015: https://registry.nbnatlas.org/public/show/dr2381
Birds (BTO+partners) 2016 - 2019: https://registry.nbnatlas.org/public/show/dr2382

Birds (BTO/JNCC/RSPB partnership): https://registry.nbnatlas.org/public/show/dr2370

The bird taxonomy was recently updated on the UK species inventory and almost 2 million records were supplied in the BTO datasets with new taxon ids and scientific names that aren't on the NBN Atlas. The list of bird names and number of records affected is attached. We will update the UKSI on the NBN Atlas early next month and the names will be matched correctly then.

Thanks, Sophie

Re: BTO datasets updated on the NBN Atlas

Thanks Sophie. Some of these ducks look like they are incorrectly showing as non-native - e.g. Wigeon and Gadwall. Will the UKSI update fix this?

This appears to stem from the GBNNSIP e.g. http://www.nonnativespecies.org/factshe … ciesId=207 ?

They are both non-native on the UKSI, from the GBNNSIP. Could you give me a list of the species that should be native, please?

Thanks, Sophie

Re: BTO datasets updated on the NBN Atlas

hmm! My colleague who deals with non-native species is on leave, so I will ask him to investigate. Gadwall I can kind of understand - the record of 1850 was first confirmed breeding, but it certainly was recorded earlier than that in winter. Wigeon looks like it has been associated with the wrong taxon - 1999 in St James Park makes no sense.

Is there a way to get a list of all the birds which are flagged as being non-native to check?
