Any idea why my base maps should not be available. This has happened before and they re-appeared after rebooting computer but is is recurring.

Any idea why my base maps should not be available. This has happened before and they re-appeared after rebooting computer but is is recurring.
Do you mean you have got no base maps available when you try to set up new maps on the Map Options screen, or that the list of maps you have previously set up and used have disappeared?
