Re: Upgrading from 6.7.2 to 6.13 on a network

We have 4 PCs on our office network, with a small server running MSDE.  We are currently using 6.7.2, and would like to upgrade to 6.13.

We have run the upgrade on the server and have successfully installed 6.13 (progressing through the in-between versions) on the workstation through which the server was accessed.  We have also run the workstation upgrade programme on each workstation.

We can access 6.13 and our database on the 1st workstation - the one on which the main upgrade was run.  However, when we try to open Recorder on the remaining 3 workstations, we receive the following error message (and Recorder does not open):

An error occurred whilst starting the application.
EOleException: [DNNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied

Any ideas what this message means, and why we can't get Recorder to open?

Thanks in advance,

Francesca

Re: Upgrading from 6.7.2 to 6.13 on a network

Hi Francesca,

Are you still experiencing issues with this?

There could be a couple of issues which are the cause of your problem.  Was it all working ok before you upgraded to 6.13?

On the workstation that is operational I'd check the registry settings for Recorder. To do this you can run regedit from the windows run command and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> DORSET SOFTWARE -> RECORDER 6
There should be a list of keys present including Server Name, Database Name, Standalone andTrusted Security.   Make a note of the values assigned to these four keys.

Then on each of the workstations that isn't working go and view the Recorder 6 registry settings in the same manner as before (regedit etc).  Compare the four key values to the ones from the working workstation, if any are different then modify them to be the same as the working PC.
Then retry Recorder on that workstation.

If you're still having issues it may be down to permissions on the MSDE server - we can look at that next if need be.

Kind regards and my apologies for not responding sooner.
