SEWBReC is a Local Environmental Records Centre which exists to collate, manage and disseminate up-to-date and accurate information on the biodiversity of the South East Wales area. Our users are able to obtain access to the information we hold which assists them in evaluating the likely biodiversity implications of their plans or projects.

Vacancies have recently arisen for TWO organised, professional and enthusiastic people to join the SEWBReC team as BIODIVERSITY INFORMATION ASSISTANTS. Both posts are initially offered as fixed-term contracts; one until 31st March 2009 and the other until 31st March 2010, with the possibility of extension in both cases. Starting salary for these full-time posts will be £15,153 p.a. (pro rata), subject to local government pay rate changes (pay award pending). Posts will be based in SEWBReC’s offices in central Cardiff.

The successful candidates will be responsible for the ongoing computerisation of biological records from a range of sources (including the Countryside Council for Wales and local recording groups) and will assist with the output of biodiversity information products and services in response to enquiries from SEWBReC users. The successful candidates will possess:

    A degree or equivalent qualification
    Experience of working in a comparable role
    Knowledge of biodiversity and/or biological recording
    Excellent organisation and communication skills
    Personal commitment to biological recording/biodiversity conservation
