Topic: Search timeout and email address for error reporting

I have twice tried a search for Larch Ladybird (https://species.nbnatlas.org/search/?q=Larch+Ladybird). They both timed out with the following error message:

An error has occurred

    Timed out calling web service. URL= https://species-ws.nbnatlas.org/search? … %3ACOMMON.

If this problem persists, please send an email to support@ala.org.au.

I don't suppose the Atlas of Living Australia would welcome the error report!!!

I thought the Atlas was meant to be more reliable than the Gateway?

NBN Atlas Scotland very slow this afternoon and timing out.
Could be a local broadband problem, but the weather is good and no problem with other sites.

Also getting a few timeouts with the GB Atlas here and we have a very solid connection to the internet.

I'm getting a lot of "Sorry - the request was taking too long so it has been cancelled." messages at the moment... I'm only asking for dataset metadata.

Search is very slow this morning, but so far no "time-outs" just time to make lots of cups of tea.

I have tried the search functionality and it appears fine albeit slightly slower than usual.  Can you let us know if your still having any issues and we can look into these further.

Thanks for your post.  I have just tried the link and it takes me straight to the Amphibian and reptile records for Great Britain in 2016  page....have you tried using another browser etc?

This is loading nice and quick for me - but a species search is very slow. This json is what seems to be holding it up (a 50+ second TTFB) if that helps:

I think that because the searched had failed I had copied the wrong url from the browser - sorry. Try this one instead https://records.nbnatlas.org/occurrence … uid:dr1128

I normally use Firefox which was giving the problems that I reported. I just tried IE and that gave the same problems, and Chrome gave me

An error has occurred
Error: unknown
Failed to get json from web service (https://records-ws.nbnatlas.org/occurre … ;flimit=10). class java.net.SocketTimeoutException Read timed out, java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out

My broadband speed is 71MBps, so not a problem at this end?

The page appears at first glance to load for me, but after a while I get that error message, and scrolling down to bottom of page it says
DIGITISED RECORDS
No records can be accessed through the Atlas.

A few people on the NFBR facebook group complaining of pages not loading/slow speeds.

I've been waiting for up to 65 seconds for some map tiles to load.
Just got a timeout on a species search.
I'm sure you will be logging when timeouts occur and in response to what requests.
Changing browser will not help in my view - the timeout message is generated by the Atlas

This one is slow for me - the first two times between 10 and 25 seconds for the page to load, but it does come through eventually - but the third timed out (at the Atlas end, rather than my end) after a minute.

Also getting error message on Muntjac Deer, seems intermittent though and has now just loaded without issue.

Beginning to get quite painful. Longest wait so far is 7 minutes 52 seconds for a map tile. Lots of searches timing out.

We are aware of issues relating to speed and timing out on the NBN Atlas. We will endeavour to resolve as soon as possible and ask that you can be patient with us.

I'm using the analyse data function to try to get a lichen species list for Rassal SSSI (to advise on site management). I eventually got the Rassal SSSI to load but when I tried to load species within the SSSI I got an error telling me the server is out of service, please try again. No luck yet but I presume this is related to the above so you are aware and working on the problem.

Searching still very slow this morning - too slow for testing.

Apologies for the speed of the Atlas over the last few days.  We are aware of this and are working towards getting the site fully up and running.  Please do continue to bear with us while we look into the issues. 

However, it does seem slightly quicker than yesterday and I am getting search results returned after a short wait.
