This is for information only, as I have found a solution while waiting to be allowed to post!

I was trying to do a re-install on a new Windows 10 laptop, using my original 6.17.1 R6 download and SQLServer 2014, but the Recorder install couldn't find the SQL instance, even though it was running.

After several attempts trying various things, I found a forum entry relating to a similar problem when trying to install 6.14 on Windows 8. In that case it was implied that 6.17.1 would have worked okay, but a link to the 6.23.2 download was given. So I downloaded 6.23 and that installed okay.

So I can say that on Windows 10, version 6.17.1 does not work but 6.23.2 does.
