Topic: Network Installation problems

I am trying to move our Recorder 6 installation from XP to Windows 7. (SQL server 2008).

The installation seemed to have gone fine and the old data base is running on the new machine with Recorder 6 working fine on that machine.

However, i am unable to get any workstation to connect to the new database. The workstation installation (also running on windows 7) appears to have installed fine then when i try to start recorder 6 i get the error;
eoleexception [dbnelib][connectionopen connect()]. SQL server does not exist or access denied

While i am able to connect to the PC itself SQL management studio (2008) is also unable to view or connect to the SQLEXPRESS instance. I can't figure out why. SQLEXPRESS and Browser/Network services are all running and i have made sure that TCP/IP connections are enabled and that windows firewall isn't blocking anything to do with sql. I have been through and checked the logins in the database.

Any suggestions?

Re: Network Installation problems

Doubt if it is the database, but more likley to be something not right with the settings. The link  to the site I normally refer to is shown below, but someone with more network experience may be able to offer further advice.

Re: Network Installation problems

Hi Mike, Thanks for your response. That's a helpful link. The problem was stemming from the SQL server settings, it was working through a different port than i expected. Allowing the (correct) TCP and a UDP port connection through the firewall seems to have done the trick and admin accounts are now working.

There is still n issue connecting with 'volunteer' level windows authentication as i'm getting "cannot open database 'NBNData' requested by the login", but this should be less of a problem...
