Topic: Unable to open

Can anyone help an IT semi-illiterate with a problem?  The stand alone Recorder 6 on my desktop, which holds a back-up database, was installed about four years ago, but now refuses to open.  The error message reads 'ERegistryException: Failed to get data for 'Visible''.

Looks like there is a problem with the registry. I suspect that something may have got out of step, but working out what has happened could be difficult. Do you know how to open regedit and check the entry under    HKEY_Current_User/Software/Dorset Software/Recorder 6/Settings/Context. I am expecting 4 entries (Default, Coolbar Break,Position,Visible).

Thanks.  I finally got to the four entries (with Sally's help) and confirmed they were present.  I also changed the Value data in Visible from 0 to 1 to match the setting in Sally's R6, but it's made no difference.  However, Sally spotted that I have no 'Visible' entry in Settings/Standard, while there is in hers (I just have default, Coolbar Break and Position).  Could that be significant?

It is definitely a registry  problem and looks like something is missing. I didn't spot that there was one in registry standard so if it missing this could be the problem.  You can add it manually. Highlight standard  and right click. Select the option New DWORD . This will create a new entry on the right (blue). Right click on this and choose rename. Name it Visible. Right click on it and choose Modify (Top line not Modify Binary data). Change value data to 1 and click OK.
