Topic: Building a new website from scratch: Indicia??

Hi,

if I am building a new website to record biological surveys,  should I be using Drupal 7 and if so how do I go about doing it?
Instant Indicia doesn't exist anymore, and I'm starting from scratch.
Thanks

Re: Building a new website from scratch: Indicia??

Hi

The answer to bring you quickest results in to use Drupal 7 and to install the Indicia IForm module in the same manner as any other Drupal module. If you are unfamiliar with Drupal then that is not a very helpful instruction! In that case, my first recommendation would be to mess around with Drupal and get the feel of it.

I have another somewhat unhelpful comment to add which is that the best version of the IForm module to use is the development version from the code repository. This is because the last released version is now pretty out of date. This is somewhat unhelpful because we are just migrating from the Google SVN repository to Git Hub and so it is not easy to get hold of just now. It may be here, https://github.com/Indicia-Team/drupal-7

A couple of other thoughts. First, Drupal 8 is soon to be released. You might like to avoid the migration headache and use the much improved version of Drupal. However, to do that you might have to help migrate the D7 version of the IForm module to D8. Contributions are very welcome!

If you are a PHP developer and have a favourite development framework you could build your own site without Drupal. The IForm module for Drupal is a bit of a wrapper around a PHP library which contains all the functions that do the heavy lifting. We just use Drupal to try to make life easier for people without developer skills to exploit the power of Indicia.
