Topic: Error trying to install addins

Hi,

We have a mixture of workstations, XP and Windows 7 64 bit, some will install addins and others wont. It is not user related. The error is EOleSysError and "Class not registered" on XP machines, and "The class is not configured to support Elevated activation" on the Windows 7 machines.
I've exhausted all my ideas so help would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Dave

Re: Error trying to install addins

I suggest that you try (or get you IT dept to try) a manual install of an addin. Try a simple addin (not NBNExchange).  The manual install should show you why the addins are failing. It is a bit complicated, but doesn't take very long if you know your way around the registry.

There are instructions for this  at

Re: Error trying to install addins

Hi Mike,

Followed the the instructions for 64bit Windows 7 and went OK. Tried to log in to Recorder and had an Error as soon as I entered my password. EoleSysError Invalid Class String. Tried to Continue Application and got EAccess Violation at address 00A705E2 in Module RecorderApp.exe write address 00000064 closely followed by the same error at read address 0000018C.

Re: Error trying to install addins

Which addin was it you tried to install ?  Please disable the addin by changing installed to 0 in the registry and let me know if R6 will now open.

Re: Error trying to install addins

Hi Mike,
It was GoToKey.ocx. Changed the Installed to '0' and Recorder opens fine.
I notice in your instructions, there are GoToKey and GoToKey2. I only have GoToKey if this is significant.

Re: Error trying to install addins

I have run through my instructions on a 64 bit machine to check that they are correct. They do seem to be, but one tiny mistake I made in an entry caused an error in Recorder very similar to the one you received. Can you please double check that the format of 3 entries you have in addin registry match those for other installed addins.

Re: Error trying to install addins

Hi Mike,
You were quite correct. Not being familiar withe the Registry, I had created a CISID rather than CLSID. I can now open Recorder and use the GoToKey addin. It does still crash if I try and use Install giving the "The class is not configured to support Elevated activation" error.

Re: Error trying to install addins

This could be due to the fact that the version of Workstation Set Up on your server is an old one. See last post in topic

http://forums.nbn.org.uk/viewtopic.php?id=1568&p=2

However, if you can install the addins you need  manually then you might not wish to uninstall /reinstall the workstation.

Re: Error trying to install addins

Hi Mike,

Downloaded the new Workstation Install files and have successfully uninstalled and reinstalled on two Windows 7 64bit machines (and loaded addins).

Thanks for your help.
